Being proactive about getting your pool ready for closing is better than being reactive in the Spring! Taking the time now to make sure everything is properly “winterized” will keep you from finding cracked or broken items come pool opening time.
Lubricating Your O-Rings
When you are closing your pool in the fall, it is a good time to lubricate the pump lid o-ring with a silicone-based lubricant. It’s also good practice to lubricate the pool filter head O-ring before replacing the filter head. This will ensure a better fit and extend the life of the O-ring. All you need to do is rub a thin coat of lubrication on the outside of the O-ring. Remember to use a non-petroleum based lubricant. Petroleum-based lubes will cause swelling.
Also, if you have a gas heater with cast iron plugs, lubricate these threads or leave the plugs in after draining to prevent rusting.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call or stop in either Pettis Pools & Patio location. Our knowledgeable staff will be more than happy to answer your questions to help ensure a smooth closing.
