As warm weather grows closer, customers are beginning to come in seeking inspiration for their patios, porches, outdoor rooms and spaces. We have 3 buyers who travel the country seeking well-designed, quality products to bring back to Rochester every year. They look at pieces and materials from over a hundred designers and manufacturers. Each of our buyers has 15+ years of experience, so they really have their “finger on the pulse” of both national style trends and the tastes of homeowners in our region.
They attend seminars on color trends, have the opportunity to see the latest product introductions from the industry’s leading manufacturers, and gain insight into consumer-driven demand (such as moving “indoor” furniture outside to create an outdoor room).
We asked our buyers to comment on trends in the Rochester area, and here is what they told us:
Color—“Rochesterians tend to favor earth tones and neutrals, using accessories—rather than the furniture itself—to create a splash of color. One specific hot color to note, Henna red was a strong color trend in 2010 and we see that continuing for 2011.”
Outdoor Spaces—“One trend I see is that even in the largest spaces, homeowners are seeking ways to create a cozy feeling. They will often break up spaces by function (IE. pool, cooking, play, socializing) and sometimes use different styles of furniture to create inviting clusters where people can gather.”
Materials—“The type of materials used in outdoor spaces has been increasing in the past few years. Outdoor fabrics are becoming even more attractive as manufacturing processes can better weave together durable and attractive solutions. Acrylics and olefins give consumers an indoor fabric look and feel with outdoor weatherability.”

Whenever we can, we select American-made furniture; in fact, it makes up the majority of our offerings. If we do choose an imported line, we make certain that they have US support with warehousing facilities in America. This allows for quicker delivery times and help should something happen to your furniture.
